Youth & Adolescence
Youth and teens face a variety of stressors in regard to family, school, and friends; many face social pressures as well. Parenting has many limitations for today’s technologically savvy youth who generally prefer to spend much of their time playing video games, chatting online, or building the best super computer on the block. Other youth may withdraw and not try to keep up with the information overload. Some can turn to substances to tune out the world around them only to find adults are on their back more than ever. As parents try to enforce new rules, youth may rebel and dismiss all authority.
Youth and adolescent development can help youth to re-focus on what is important:
• School, career, and educational enhancement
• Family accord
• Substance abuse prevention
• Social and emotional growth
• Adjustment to life’s events
